Firefox extensions are small add-on programs that add a new piece of functionality to the browser.
These extensions can range from adding a new toolbar button to adding a completely new feature. The great thing about these extensions is that you can choose which extensions you want to add.

I don't find StumbleUpon useful at all. I mean all it does is send you to random websites. I've been hooked to Digg and Youlicit. Everybody knows about Digg, but not too many people have heard about Youlicit, which is an awesome Firefox extension. Youlicit finds you similar sites based on the site you're visiting. Good stuff!
I would recommend Brief as a feed reader (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4578).An other interesting add-on is "Read it Later" (http://www.ideashower.com/ideas/active/read-it-later/).
