Google is partnering with cellphone carriers, makers and software developers to create a new operating system for mobile phones
: Google Android.
It plans to offer a free
operating system that would make it easier to
surf the Web on phones and allow most cellphones to work a lot more like computers. The first Android-powered devices are expected in the
second half of the year 2008 but we have some technical specifications.
The OS is best suited on larger VGA devices and will support:
- Touchscreen
- 3G
- Webkit-based browser
- Optimized Java runtime layer
- Threaded text messaging
- MPEG-4, h.264, MP3, and AAC file formats
- Accelerated 3D graphics
