Logitech has released its LBD-A2U2/LBD-A2FU2 drives, the first
Blu-ray devices that support
Mac OS X. The new optical drives can read and write in single-layer which will support
25GB of data or in double-layer mode, recording 50GB of data.
Blu-ray disks feature: read, play, record, and re-write DVD+R/-R/+RW at 8X, DVD-RW at 6X, DVD+R/-R DL at 4X, and DVD-RAM at 5X. The optical drives have an 8MB buffer that allows continuous burning.
Lets see about the connectivity of the devices. The LBD-A2U2 is the stripped version, having only an USB 2.0. On the other side the A2FU2 has the USB 2.0 and the FireWire connectivity.
So if now we can record 50Gb of data, probably in a couple of years 100Gb saved on and optical disk will mean nothing.
